Having big dreams and goals you want to achieve is a wonderful thing. There are tons of ways that you can set and plan on how to achieve them including my favorite, a digital vision board. I love to figure out what I want to achieve short term and long term, then determine the steps that I need to take to make them happen. There are a few programs that I use to help me during this process including ones that deal with mind-mapping, to-do lists, and organization. But my favorite tool is a digital vision board. It can also be referred to by some as a dream board or a goal board.
A digital vision board is a great way to capture the specifics of the dreams and goals you want to achieve. It’s a powerful visualization tool that you can look back at daily to remind yourself why you can’t give up. You can also make physical vision boards, but I don’t have the time or patience to cut out words and pictures from a magazine to make a physical vision board. Also, I don’t have a lot of extra wall space in my room.
Although my vision boards never look as amazing as the ones on Instagram or Pinterest, I have gotten much better at them!
What Is The Best Way To Make a Vision Board
MY FAVORITE WAY OF MAKING A VISION BOARD IS DIGITAL. I’LL TELL YOU WHY.
A digital vision board allows me to keep myself focused on my goals and dreams daily. They’re easy to make, and I can make them for each goal or dream. I get to save time making them over traditional cork boards which requires pouring through multiple magazines or newspapers trying to find the right pictures and words. Because I can make them so fast, I have started making a different vision board for each of my goals or dreams, as well as my main vision board to keep me focused and determined.
I use to use Pinterest as my vision boards, but it ended up being a time-waster because I would get enthralled in Pinterest and pin hundreds of things to a board, then never look at the board.
Since I spend a lot of time on my phone and my computer, a digital vision board is more convenient. It also keeps my goals and dreams at the top of my mind every day. It’s my inspiration and my motivation to keep going and never give up.
How Do I Get Started Making a Digital Vision Board
Below are some tips to help you create your digital vision board to help inspire you to reach your life goals and dreams.
Step 1: Do a mind dump. A mind dump is a simple and efficient way to get all of the stuff jumbled up out of your head so you can focus on what’s important at this moment and new goals or dreams. They say a cluttered mind never helped anyone achieve their goals because their mind is racing and bouncing from one subject to another. Grab a piece of paper or a keyboard and word document, and start dumping all of the racing or mundane thoughts.
Step 2: Decide what type of digital vision board you want to make. Example: Are you looking to make a goal vision board, dream vision board, or a combination of both? Do you want to make multiple vision boards, one for each goal or dreams? Or do you want to make a single board that accompanies both your short term and long term goals, as well as your dreams? Once you’ve identified the type of board/boards you want to make, continue reading.
Step 3: Clarify one of your dreams or goals. Be absolutely specific about what it is you want and the reason you want to achieve it. Jot down all of the details so that you can create an action plan. Ask yourself some questions including:
- What tools will I need to achieve this goal?
- How will I track my progress?
- Will I need help? If so, what help will I need?
- How do I need to change to achieve this goal?
- What obstacles may get in my way, and how will I overcome it?
- What skills will I have to improve?
Finding Inspiration For Your Digital Vision Board
Step 4: When creating your vision board, use your own photos or royalty-free images. These images should represent your goals or dreams (depending upon the way you are choosing to make your vision boards.) The photos you use or choose should be inspiring and capture your end goal or dreams. Some of my favorite sites that have royalty-free images are Pixabay, Unsplash, and Pexels.
Another form of images I like to use on my vision boards as you can see are inspirational words or quotes. Inspirational and powerful words have the ability to drive your determination and keep you more focused on your goals. Choose words and quotes that promote the feeling that you want to experience. Don’t be afraid to use bold, strong words that evoke those feelings you want to experience most. My recent digital vision board includes words and sayings like: believe, focus, don’t stop until you’re proud, and don’t let anyone dull your sparkle.
Lets Get Into the Creation Process For Your Digital Vision Board
Step 5: Create your vision board using a free tool like Canva, PicMonkey, or Fotor. To do so, you create a collage of your powerful and inspiring images.
Canva is personally my favorite tool, which is why I pay for the pro version, but you can use whichever you prefer. There are even apps you can download on your phone to use like PicStitch. There is also an app for Canva and PicMonkey as well. I prefer making mine on my computer but I know not everyone has a computer.
Two of my favorite aspects of Canva are how easy it is to make collages and use as an interface, and the ability to add a plethora of different text in various fonts and overlays. This makes my vision boards not only bold but also more motivating!
To make your collage in Canva, follow these steps.
- Choose Create a New Design
- Click Photo Collage
- Choose the layout you like the best on the left-hand side
- Select Upload on the left and upload the images you’ve saved to your computer to use in the collage
- Drag and drop each photo where you want it to go
- You can then edit the text that’s already there if you want text by double-clicking on each text element. Another option is to left-click on the element then delete it if you don’t want the text.
You can use simple, inspirational words or an affirmation or quote. Or, you can put a goal statement in text form.
A great way to get inspiration for your digital vision board is Pinterest. I can get lost for hours scrolling through Pinterest finding beautiful examples and inspiration for future boards.
Let Your Creations Be Your Guide
Step 6: Make your graphic the background on your desktop and the wallpaper and lock screen on your tablet and phone so you can see it multiple times a day. One of the many benefits of setting your digital vision board to your lock screen and screensaver is that it influences your subconscious because your mind is thinking about it because you see it multiple times a day. Seeing the goals and dreams you want to achieve will give you that excitement and push you need to keep going to attain them.
Step 7: I use my digital vision board to help me turn my goals and dreams into a reality by using the photo collage as a reminder to focus. When I feel like being lazy, I unlock my phone and I remember why I can’t. The photo collage as my lock screen reminds me to get my butt in gear and focus intently on what I want to achieve.
How To Make Your Goals and Dreams Realistic
To make your dreams and goals realistic and possible, take the time to ask yourself some questions for the finish line:
- Who will I be with?
- How will I feel?
- What will I be wearing?
- In what style will my hair be in?
- What season will it be?
- Is there a scent or color you see?
Achieving your goals start with a commitment to yourself. Follow that up with a plan. This plan needs to be an action plan that includes a breakdown of small achievable steps.
Your goals will only become a reality if you put the work in. Otherwise, they will simply be a dream. It’s important that you focus, visualize the outcome, do the work needed, and keep pushing even when you feel like giving up until you achieve each smaller step.
So, what are you waiting for? Get working on your digital vision board!
I absolutely love this! I need to make a few of these now. I have always heard of vision boards but have never made one. Thanks for the tips.
Oh my goodness! This is so creative! I’m going to have to give this a try! I’ve always been one to have a physical vision board but I like the idea of a digital one!
This is such a great idea! I never thought of making it the background on my phone or computer. Can’t wait to make one myself!
This is so timely for me. So I did get all of the things to do a vision and progress board in the traditional sense. I will likely stay the course but may also introduce digital options. I love the mind-dump piece. I need to do this to bucket my thoughts. I also like the idea of ensuring it’s front and center but having it on your desktop, phone, etc. I also want to work on a progress board that shows progress towards weight loss and skin care.
Love this! You’ve inspired me to make one!
